Innovative response to
repair of the bulk carrier Wadi Sudr demonstrates Cascade General's
experience, technical knowledge and full-service capabilities in
bulk ship repair.
The Wadi Sudr, a 70,000
DWT bulk carrier owned by National Navigation Co. of Alexandria,
Egypt, sustained major damage to its rudder horn and stock in an
accident which occurred on the Columbia River in Oregon.
Cascade General's engineering
and repair teams immediately assessed the damage following the accident
and worked in conjunction with the owners and insurance adjusters
to develop a cost-effective repair strategy. The extensive repairs
were performed on an accelerated basis to meet the owner's charter
schedule.
A historic undertaking
in ship repair, this marked the first time - according to Lloyd's
of London Registry records - a detached rudder horn had been successfully
reattached and approved for permanent repair.
The unusual nature of
the damage required innovative approaches to repair which incorporated
welding, cutting, straightening and furnacing. Given the wall thickness
of the cast steel, extensive use of X-ray and NDT procedures were
necessary to continuously verify the quality of the reattachment
process.
At Cascade General, we
provide a wide range of specialized repair services for bulk ships
including: cargo gear, hatches, cranes, hydraulics and mechanical
systems. We can also handle the largest, most complex steel renewals
and blast and coat jobs.
